Joey is back from her amazing sponsored cycle ride in aid of Norwood. Such hard work in getting fit, such huge distances to travel each day and what a tremendous amount of money to raise for charity. WELL DONE JOEY – we’re so proud of you.

JOEY'S DIARY:
I want to start by thanking all who have supported me on the Norwood South Africa bike ride. For the last week I’ve been cycling across the Western Cape of South Africa for Norwood (which helps adults and children with disadvantages and disabilities www.norwood.org.uk).
It was the hardest and most amazing experience of my life where I pushed myself to the absolute limits. Setting out to cover over 300 miles – we started Day 1 in George on the coast, climbing hills of all length and gradient in the baking heat for 70 miles. Day 2 was much of the same with a 6am start, covering 60 miles including a staggering 7 mile hike. Unfortunately my beloved sidekick Kat suffered exhaustion and dehydration resulting in a visit to the hospital until 3am.
Day 3 came around before I could even get a wink of sleep – soldier down, I managed to cycle on 3 hours sleep from 8am until 7pm, going the distance of 120 miles. I’m not going to lie, the heat kicked in on the 20th hill of the day around 10:30am and strong headwinds held me back in the afternoon. It was an emotional and beyond manageable day, but well worth it being awarded 'hero of the day' that evening by the group (I just about managed to watch the first 1/2 of the arsenal-spurs match before retiring at 11pm)
By Day 4 Kat was ready to come back on board. For me, the sore bum, back and legs had sincerely kicked in with blisters and dodgy tan marks, but what can I say about the sight of table mountain and cape town on Day 5. As if it wasn't tough enough for me, 6 team members were strong enough to cycle tandem with Ravenswood village residents, seeing first hand how people benefit from the charity was priceless!
It is a fantastic charity, run by great people who bring the best out of those with a disability or disadvantage. I hope you can help to support them by donating at www.justgiving.com/josephinesimmons.
